Diseases common in Ashkenazi Jews
- In the Ashkenazi Jewish population (people with Eastern, Central, and Northern European ancestry), it’s estimated that about 1 in 4 individuals is a carrier for at least one of several genetic conditions.
- These conditions include Tay-Sachs disease, Niemann-Pick disease, Gaucher disease, familial dysautonomia, Bloom syndrome, Canavan disease, Fanconi anemia, cystic fibrosis, and mucolipidosis IV.
