CARS practice sets: let’s put strategy into action

Now that you’ve learned the key strategies for CARS, these practice passage sets give you a chance to use them with realistic, passage-based questions.

Each set includes one passage and a group of related questions. You’ll answer the questions one at a time, using the passage as your evidence. The goal is to strengthen two skills at once:

• Careful reading of what the passage actually says
• Clear reasoning about what the author means and why each answer choice does or doesn’t fit

As you work, keep these habits in mind:

• Preview the questions before you read so you know what to watch for
• Take brief notes or a quick outline as you read
• Track the author’s tone and purpose

You can take breaks between sets or complete several in one sitting, depending on whether you’re focusing on accuracy or building stamina.
