Welcome to the Achievable ACT course!

This course is designed to prepare you for the ACT exam. The material is organized around the same subjects you will see on the test: English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing. As you work through the course, you will learn the concepts tested on the ACT and practice applying them through review questions and full-length practice exams.

Eligibility

The ACT is usually taken by students ages 16–18 as part of the college admissions process. However, anyone who is at least 13 years old and has completed high school (or is currently completing it) can take the ACT.

Exam format

The ACT has three required sections — English, Math, and Reading — plus two optional sections: Science and Writing.

  • The required sections use multiple-choice questions.
  • The Science section (if you choose to take it) also uses multiple-choice questions.
  • The Writing section is one essay.

Each required section is scored from 1 to 36. Your composite score is the average of your English, Math, and Reading scores.

If you take the optional Science section, you will receive a separate Science score (and a STEM score that combines Math and Science). The Writing section is scored separately from 2 to 12.

The ACT introduced an updated format beginning in 2025. The test is now shorter, with fewer questions and slightly more time per question. The Science section is optional, and the composite score is calculated using only English, Math, and Reading.

This course has been updated to reflect the current ACT format, including the revised timing and structure of each section.

Use that information to guide your practice so you can strengthen areas where your understanding is still developing. At the same time, continue practicing sections where you already perform well so those skills remain sharp.
