Congratulations on taking the next step toward your academic future by preparing for the ACT using Achievable! The ACT is a crucial standardized test used for college admissions and scholarships, and with the right preparation, you can achieve a strong score. While this portion will not include any testable content, it will give you more details on other ways to prepare for your upcoming exam.
1. Register for the ACT by visiting the official ACT website. You will need to create an account and select your preferred test date and location.
2. You’ll need to provide personal information, select a testing center, and choose whether to take the optional writing section.
3. Make sure that you stay up to date with registration deadlines so that you can secure the testing date that you want. Check out the ACT website for more information on up-to-date deadlines.
The ACT costs $65. There is an additional fee of $25 if you want to add-on the writing portion, and an additional $4 fee if you want to add-on the science section.
The ACT does not have a “passing score.” Instead, your composite score (ranging from 1 to 36) is based on the average of your section scores. Colleges set their own score requirements.
There is no limit to how many times you can take the ACT. If you wish to retake the ACT, you must wait until the next available test date.
You will not be able to use a formula sheet on the math portion. You will be able to use a calculator, but only certain ones are permitted. Check out the ACT calculator policy for more information.
You can choose to take the ACT either on paper or online. If you choose to test online, it’s administered at a testing center, not at home. These options will be available when you register.
You will be able to send your score to 4 colleges at no extra charge. If you need additional score reports, it will cost you $19 per college.
As you approach test day, we recommend the following to make sure you perform at the highest possible level:
Do your research.
It is important to do your own research and set your own personal goals for your score since your score can also qualify you for various scholarships. We recommend that you check with the colleges that you are looking at attending to see if you will qualify for any ACT related scholarships.
Identify and focus.
Identify and focus on your weak areas while maintaining strengths in subjects where you perform well. This is crucial for identifying problem areas early and building overall test-taking confidence.
Review your email confirmation.
Please give yourself plenty of time to review the important appointment details from your ACT email confirmation before exam day.
Bring your ID.
Regardless of how you are testing, bring one valid, government-issued identification document with a signature and picture, such as an unexpired driver’s license, passport, or military ID. Also, ensure that your name on this ID is the exact same name under which your exam is scheduled.
Arrive early.
This ensures that you will get to your testing center on time.
As always, refer to the official ACT website for further information.
