Important reminder: The exam is still tough
This course makes you eligible to test. It does not fully prepare you for the entire state licensing exam.
The exam will still cover:
- Policy types, coverages, riders, and provisions
- Definitions, contract features, and risk concepts
- Real-world application scenarios
- PLUS the ethics and Insurance Code topics you’ve just completed
Because of that, it is strongly recommended that you also complete the full Achievable pre-license course for your specific line(s) of authority (Life, Health, Property, Casualty, etc.).
Think of it this way:
- This course = your ticket to enter the exam room
- The full Achievable pre-license course = your toolkit to actually pass the exam
Registering for your state exam
Once you’ve:
- Completed this California Insurance Code and Ethics, and
- Worked through your main Achievable pre-license course (strongly recommended!)
…you’ll be ready to schedule your licensing exam with a CDI-approved testing provider.
Check:
- The California Department of Insurance website for current exam vendors, fees, and procedures
- Your testing provider’s site for available dates, locations, online testing options, and ID requirements
Pro tips:
- Register early so you get your preferred date and time
- Give yourself enough time to finish your full Achievable prep before exam day
- Treat a practice exam like a dress rehearsal: same time of day, same pacing, minimal distractions
Test-day tips
As you get close to exam day, a few simple habits can make a big difference:
1. Don’t cram the day before
- Use the day before for light review at most. Prioritize sleep and a clear plan for test day.
2. Sleep like it matters (because it does)
- Aim for a full night’s sleep. When you’re tired, it’s easier to misread questions, miss details, or second-guess correct answers.
3. Move your body
- On test day, get your blood flowing for 5-10 minutes: a walk, push-ups, stretching, whatever works. It helps you feel more alert and settled.
4. Eat something real
- Choose a simple, steady-energy meal (protein > straight sugar). Think eggs, yogurt, nuts, fruit. The goal is focus without a mid-test crash.
5. Arrive early and breathe
- Whether the exam is at a testing center or remote, be “in place” early. Confirm your ID, logins, and instructions, then take a few slow breaths before you start.
