Welcome to the Achievable NCLEX-RN® Course!

We’re excited to partner with you on your journey to becoming a licensed Registered Nurse. The NCLEX-RN® is more than just a licensing exam; it is the gateway to professional nursing practice in the United States, Canada, and select international jurisdictions. This course has been designed to strengthen your knowledge, sharpen your clinical judgment, and prepare you to confidently tackle the NCLEX-RN® using Achievable’s proven method of structured learning, active recall, and adaptive review. All course content is fully updated to align with the 2026 NCLEX-RN® requirements and test plan.

With the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN), the exam now places even greater emphasis on clinical judgment and real-world scenarios. That means this course won’t just help you memorize facts; it will help you think and act like a nurse. Whether you’re preparing for your first attempt or looking to fine-tune your skills before retesting, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Eligibility

To take the NCLEX-RN®, you must apply for licensure through a nursing regulatory body (NRB). Each NRB sets its own requirements, but common criteria include:

  • Graduation from an approved nursing program (diploma, associate, or bachelor’s degree in nursing).
  • Meeting your state or jurisdiction’s application deadlines and background checks.
  • Receipt of an Authorization to Test (ATT) from Pearson VUE once eligibility is confirmed by your NRB.

There are no age or citizenship restrictions, but you must meet your NRB’s education and legal standards before testing.

Exam format

  • Exam delivery: Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) through Pearson VUE test centers worldwide.
  • Length: Minimum 85 items, maximum 150 items.
  • Time limit: Up to 5 hours, including scheduled and unscheduled breaks.
  • Passing standard: The NCLEX does not use a set percentage; instead, the computer determines if your ability is consistently above the passing standard set by NCSBN.
  • Pretest items: Approximately 15% of questions are unscored “pretest” items used for research.

Content outline

The NCLEX-RN® assesses knowledge and clinical judgment across four major Client Needs categories:

Client Needs Category Subcategories Weighting (% of exam)
Safe and Effective Care Environment Management of Care, Safety & Infection Control 26–38%
Health Promotion and Maintenance Growth & Development, Screening, Prevention 6–12%
Psychosocial Integrity Coping, Mental Health, Crisis, Abuse, End-of-Life 6–12%
Physiological Integrity Basic Care & Comfort, Pharmacological Therapies, Reduction of Risk Potential, Physiological Adaptation 38–62%

Question types include:

  • Multiple-choice questions
  • Multiple-response (select-all-that-apply)
  • Ordered response (priority/sequence)
  • Hot spot items (identify an area on a graphic)
  • Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) items, such as case studies, highlight tables, matrix/grid questions, and drag-and-drop scenarios

Tips for success

  • Consistency beats cramming: Dedicate at least 30–60 minutes daily, gradually building endurance for full-length exams.
  • Practice with purpose: Use the adaptive quizzes and NGN-style cases in this course to train your clinical judgment, not just recall.
Leverage rationales: Always review both correct and incorrect answers to understand the “why.”
  • Simulate test conditions: Complete the 2–3 of the full-length practice exams provided under timed, distraction-free conditions.
  • Care for yourself: Sleep, nutrition, and stress management directly impact test performance.

Final thoughts

At the end of this course, you’ll find additional details about registration, scheduling, fees, and what to expect on exam day.

This course is structured to provide you with:

  • Comprehensive content review across all NCLEX domains.
  • Hundreds of practice questions aligned with NCSBN’s test plan.
  • Dynamic review tools that strengthen weak areas.
  • Full-length practice exams to mirror the real test.

By working through each chapter and actively engaging with practice questions, you’ll develop the confidence and clinical judgment skills needed not only to pass the NCLEX-RN® but to thrive as a safe, effective, and compassionate nurse.
