Wrapping up
You’ve now worked through the core ideas in the Achievable CIMA BA1 Course. The topics you’ve covered - macroeconomics, microeconomics, and the financial context of business - are the same building blocks you’ll use on the BA1 exam and throughout the CIMA qualification.
Testing registration
When you’re ready to sit the CIMA BA1 exam, you’ll register through the official CIMA website. You must have an active MY CIMA account to book an exam.
- Log in to your account at the official CIMA Global website
- Navigate to the ‘My exams’ section in your MY CIMA account.
- Schedule your exam by selecting BA1 and choosing a convenient time and location at a Pearson VUE testing centre.
BA1 is an “on-demand” computer-based exam, which means you can book it at any time of year (not only during fixed exam windows). Choose a date that leaves enough time for final review and practice.
Additional information
Here are a few practical details to keep in mind as you plan for the official CIMA BA1 exam:
- Cost: The cost of the BA1 exam varies by country. CIMA uses a three-tier regional pricing system. For example, in Tier 1 countries (like the UK and the US), the exam fee is approximately £123. In other regions, the fee may be lower. You can check the exact fee for your location in your MY CIMA account before booking.
- Scoring: The exam is scored on a scale from 0 to 150. You need a score of 100 to pass. You will see your result immediately after finishing the exam.
- Retakes: If you don’t pass on your first attempt, you can retake the exam. There is no mandatory waiting period for objective tests like BA1; you can re-book as soon as you feel prepared.
- Calculators: You will have a calculator on the computer screen. You are permitted to bring your own physical calculator into the exam room as long as it suits the criteria according to CIMA and Pearson testing centre guidelines.
- Accommodations: If you require testing accommodations due to a disability or other condition, you must apply for these through CIMA before you book your exam. Contact the CIMA support team for details on submitting a request.
- Testing options: BA1 is only available at Pearson VUE testing centres. There is no online proctored option for this exam.
Tips
As test day approaches, use these tips to keep your routine simple and predictable.
Don’t study the day before the exam.
- Do something you enjoy, but plan to be home by 6 p.m. and winding down by 9 p.m. Aim for a full eight hours of sleep so you’re rested on exam day.
Wake up early on test day and get your heart rate up.
- Try to wake up at least two hours before you leave for the test centre. Start the day with 5-10 minutes of light exercise (a quick jog, jumping jacks, or something similar). This can help you feel more alert and ready to focus.
Eat a protein-rich breakfast.
- After exercise, shower and eat. A balanced breakfast that includes protein, probiotics, and antioxidants can work well. Eggs, yogurt, and blueberries are one example.
Mentally prepare yourself.
- After you’ve eaten, take 5-10 minutes to sit quietly and settle your attention. Focus on staying calm and approaching the exam one question at a time.
Arrive early.
- Plan to arrive at the test centre at least 20 minutes early. This gives you time to check in without rushing. Bring your ID and the confirmation email from Pearson VUE.
