Introduction

Welcome to Achievable’s AMC course!

The AMC (American Mathematics Competitions) are a series of math contests for middle and high school students. They focus on problem-solving and mathematical reasoning. This course gives you the explanations, strategies, and practice you need to prepare confidently for the AMC exams.

Eligibility

AMC 8: Open to students in 8th grade or below and under 14.5 years old on the day of the competition. AMC 10: Open to students in 10th grade or below and must be under 17.5 years old on the day of the exam.

AMC 12: Open to students in 12th grade or below and must be under 19.5 years old on the day of the exam.

Exam format

AMC 8

• Number of Questions: 25 multiple-choice
• Time Limit: 40 minutes
• Scoring: 1 point per correct answer, no penalty for incorrect answers (max score: 25)
• No calculators allowed

AMC 10/12

• Number of Questions: 25 multiple-choice
• Time Limit: 75 minutes
• Scoring: 6 points for each correct answer, 1.5 points for each unanswered question, 0 points for incorrect answers (max score: 150)
• No calculators allowed

Taking this course

This course is designed for students preparing for any AMC level. Topics are organized into the sections below. Each section contains three to seven chapters, and most chapters include instruction and quiz questions for every level.

• The Intermediate topics section includes chapters only for AMC 10 and AMC 12.
• The Advanced topics section includes chapters only for AMC 12.

Each chapter includes discussions of key concepts and in-chapter AMC questions. After you finish a chapter, you’ll answer six quiz questions:

• Three AMC-style questions
• Three drill questions that target the specific skills used in those AMC-style questions

Drill questions also include optional hints.

We recommend doing a few review questions each day to reinforce concepts you previously missed.
