Wrapping up
Congratulations on completing the Achievable Series 10 Course! You’ve put in the work to master the supervisory concepts, compliance rules, and regulatory frameworks that form the backbone of the General Securities Sales Supervisor role. That’s no small task — the Series 10 covers a wide range of material, and finishing this course means you’re genuinely prepared to sit for the exam.
Whether you’re stepping into a branch manager role for the first time or formalizing years of experience, earning your Series 10 registration is a meaningful credential. You’ve built the knowledge — now let’s make sure you’re ready for test day.
Testing registration
To register for the Series 10 exam, your sponsoring FINRA member firm must submit an enrollment request through the Central Registration Depository (CRD) system. Once approved, you will receive a 120-day scheduling window during which you must schedule and sit for the exam. Be mindful of this window — if it expires before you test, a new enrollment will need to be submitted by your firm.
Once enrolled, you can schedule your exam through Prometric. Visit the FINRA exam scheduling page for instructions and to find an available testing location or remote proctoring option.
Remember: the Series 10 is a co-requisite with the Series 9. Both exams must be passed within the same 120-day enrollment window for the scores to count. You may take them on the same day or on separate days — plan accordingly.
Additional Information
Here are some key details to keep in mind as you prepare for the official exam:
- Passing score: You must answer at least 70% of the scored questions correctly to pass.
- Exam length: 145 scored questions + 10 unscored pretest questions = 155 total questions. You have 4 hours to complete the exam.
- Retake policy: If you do not pass, FINRA’s standard retake policy applies: you must wait 30 days after your first and second failed attempts before retesting. After a third failed attempt, the waiting period extends to 180 days.
- Testing options: The Series 10 is administered at Prometric testing centers and is also available via remote proctoring. A pre-exam tutorial is provided at the testing station before your exam begins.
- Calculators: A basic on-screen calculator is available during the exam. No external calculators or reference materials are permitted.
- Accommodations: Testing accommodations may be available for candidates with documented disabilities. Contact FINRA or Prometric for accommodation request procedures.
- Exam fee: Fees are paid through your firm’s CRD account. Check the FINRA fee schedule for current pricing.
Tips for test day
- Rest well the night before. Four hours of testing requires sustained focus — don’t underestimate the importance of a good night’s sleep.
- Arrive or log in early. Give yourself extra time to get settled, whether you’re heading to a Prometric center or launching a remote proctoring session.
- Read each question carefully. Many Series 10 questions hinge on regulatory nuance — words like “must,” “may,” and “should” carry real meaning.
- Pace yourself. With 155 questions over 4 hours, you have about 90 seconds per question. Flag difficult questions and come back to them rather than spending too long on any single item.
- Trust your preparation. If you’ve worked through this course consistently, you’re ready. Stick with your first instinct on questions you’ve studied — second-guessing often hurts more than it helps.
