Each practice exam reflects the structure of the real AP exam and provides opportunities to analyze poetry and prose passages and practice writing evidence-based literary arguments.
These exams are designed to help you build familiarity with the types of passages and questions you will encounter on test day while strengthening your ability to interpret language, analyze literary techniques, and support interpretations with textual evidence.
Section I: Multiple Choice (55 questions)
This section assesses your ability to read and analyze literary texts. Questions are organized into sets based on passages of poetry, prose fiction, or drama. You'll be asked to interpret meaning, analyze literary devices, examine tone and structure, and evaluate how language contributes to a text's overall effect.
This section is timed at 1 hour and accounts for 45% of the total exam score.
Section II: Free Response (3 questions)
This section evaluates your ability to write clear, well-supported literary analysis.
You will respond to three essay prompts, each completed separately and timed at 40 minutes:
Essays are scored using analytic rubrics that evaluate thesis development, textual evidence and commentary, and sophistication of interpretation.
Together, these essays account for 55% of the total exam score.
